The use of the Hodge pessary is recommended in cases of stress incontinence and in cases where the ring pessary is not tolerated , in particular for anatomical reasons.
The Hodge pessary is also used in the case of 1st degree or 2nd stage prolapse , more particularly:
- descent of uterine organ (hysterocele)
- bladder prolapse (cystocele)
Hodge's vaginal pessary is covered in hypoallergenic medical grade silicone with semi-rigid aluminum to support the pelvic organs and relieve the patient.

How to put on a Hodge pessary?
On first use, your doctor will place your Hodge pessary and explain how to position it properly afterwards.
First, you will need:
- Fold the hodge pessary in half lengthwise
- Hold two fingers inside the folded pessary
- Insert the pessary with both fingers into the crease of the pessary to accompany it into the vagina
- Then, with one finger, push the Hodge pessary deep.
